Name
The name of the organisation shall be Parents
For Justice.
Aims and Objectives
The Aims of Parents for Justice are:
- To approach the Minister of Health in relation
to organ retention and post mortem practices
in Ireland.
- To bring to the attention of the Minister
of Health and to the relevant officials in The
Department of Health, the situation regarding
the unauthorised removal and retention of organs,
during post mortem, from children and adults
in Ireland without the knowledge or consent
of the parents or next of kin.
- To campaign for the establishment of an inquiry
into the removal and
retention of organs during post mortem without
the knowledge or consent of parents or the next
of kin;
- To halt the practice of removing and retaining
organs during post mortem UNLESS full informed
consent has been given by the parents or next
of kin and to make hospital staff and health
professionals aware of the importance of the
need for information to be made available to
parents and next of kin.
- To campaign for the introduction of new legislation
in relation to organ
retention and post mortem practices in Ireland.
At this moment in time there is no legislation
in place. And also to resolve to make contributions
to any changes made for the benefit of the people
of Ireland in relation to organ retention and
post mortem practices. Parents for Justice would
hope to be in a position to make worthwhile
contributions to The Department of Health, The
Coroners Review Board, The E.R.H.A. and any
other hospital or health institution or to any
health professional that it may deem to be appropriate
in the future.
- To offer support in whatever way is possible
by Parents for Justice to any parent or next
of kin whose loved one maybe involved in the
organ retention situation.
- To set up a help-line for parents and next
of kin affected by organ retention and post
mortem practices in Ireland.
- To seek funding from The Department of Health,
through the Minister of Health, to continue
the work of Parents for Justice in whatever
way is deemed necessary by the committee, to
the benefit of parents or next of kin whose
loved ones have been affected by the removal
and retention, without consent, of organs during
post mortem in Ireland
